As an archival songstress, Peia has gathered songs from ancient traditions that span across the globe- from the mountains of Bulgaria to the shores of Ireland, touching upon the wisdom and trials of the Native peoples of North and South America and preserving the enchantment of medieval chant and Indian Raga. She has traveled extensively to uncover melodies wrinkled and wise with time, laboring faithfully to revive their language, stories and original essence.

A powerful voice in the rising global community of people who are committed to restoring a balanced relationship with the Earth, Peia expresses her holistic vision and passion through her music, educational workshops and advocacy for indigenous and environmental rights groups.

Gifted with a broad, soaring vocal range and crystalline tone, Peia’s song pierces the heart with bell like clarity. She sings with depth and beauty, accompanying herself with charango, harmonium, and guitar. Her revolving collaborative ensemble weaves rich vocal harmonies, cello, an eclectic array of percussion, and flamenco guitar. Peia’s performances offer authentic re-imaginings of traditional musical treasures along with a stunning repertoire of her original songs.

Song of the Ancients- Vocal Cultivation with Peia!

Saturday March 11       11 am – 2 pm

Each one of us is gifted with a uniquely beautiful voice. Open to the transcendental sound within you guided by the wisdom and expertise of Archival Songstress Peia Luzzi.

Through an embodied practice, rooted in the breath you will learn: healthy body alignment for optimal sound production, how to ground and harness the of power of the breath from your deep core, how to tap into the natural resonance of your voice.

Working with tools from the ancient Indian alchemy of Raga we will enter a meditative practice know as “The Yoga of Sound.” We gain deeper understanding of the physical inner-workings of the voice from Vocal Pedagogy and learn to sing with grace, power, flexibility and ease.

This workshop is beneficial for singers on all stages of the journey, from very beginner to advanced. The First part of this workshop will focus on vocal embodiment and cultivation tools, and the second part we’ll be learning a song from one of the many lineages that Peia is carrying.

“My journey with world folksong traditions began many years ago while studying at New England Conservatory in Boston. Much to the dismay of my Opera professors, I found myself enthralled with the alluring beauty and mystery of traditional folk music. This fascination, along with a bit of old Irish wanderlust, poised me for a journey that led me to seek a lost culture and reconnect with the songs of my ancestors in ancient Europe.”

Peia Bird is poised to release her third studio album, Beauty Thunders, a collection of traditional and original songs tracing the movement of humanity and her own ancestors throughout the ages. This new album is produced by engineer and Grammy Award Nominee Kamal Engles and includes an array of phenomenal musicians from the world music community.

As an archival songstress, Peia has gathered songs from ancient traditions that span across the globe. She carries melodies wrinkled and wise with time, laboring faithfully to revive their language, stories and original essence. Praised for her crystalline tone and high soaring soprano voice, Peia’s music pierces the heart with bell-like clarity. Accompanying herself with charangon, harmonium and guitar, her eclectic ensemble offers enchanting renditions of timeless songs.

Born in Connecticut, Peia trained in Boston at the New England Conservatory of Music, followed by an immersion in Indian classical singing. Her recording debut was in 2009 with Renaissance lutist and Grammy nominee Ronn McFarlane. 2012 saw her first solo album, The Dance of Devotion, followed by Four Great Winds in 2013, which was signed by Sounds True for global release. These stunning recordings have sparked acclaimed tours across Europe, Australia and the USA, as well as collaborations with Rumi scholar Coleman Barks, mythologist Michael Meade and Iranian tar master Ali Ghamsari.

A powerful voice in the rising global community of people who are committed to restoring a balanced relationship with the Earth, Peia expresses her holistic vision and passion through her music, educational workshops and advocacy for indigenous and environmental rights groups.
